Breaking News, Roster Moves

By Roger Hoover / Jacksonville Suns

PEARL, Miss. – The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Mississippi Braves at the Trustmark Park at 6 p.m. ET.

Right-handed pitcher Kendry Flores has joined the Suns on a transfer of option from High-A Jupiter. Flores will start for the Suns tonight against the Braves in Mississippi.

Flores started 2016 in the Triple-A New Orleans rotation. With the Zephyrs he went 1-1 with a 2.59 ERA in six starts before he was promoted to the Marlins for their doubleheader with the Washington Nationals on Saturday May 14. Flores started Game Two where he worked three scoreless innings before he had to leave the game with a right shoulder strain, then was placed on the disabled list. Flores turned in five scoreless innings in his first start with High-A Jupiter at Bradenton on Monday June 20.

In 2015 Flores made nine starts for the Suns, going 3-3 with a 2.06 ERA in 56 and two-thirds innings of work. He was first promoted to the Marlins on May 27, and in his time with the Marlins in 2015 he was 1-2 with a 5.68 ERA in seven appearances and one start. Flores, 24, was acquired by the Marlins from San Francisco along with right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo in exchange for infielder Casey McGehee on December 20, 2014.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns and Braves will continue the series with the fourth game of the five-game set tonight at Trustmark Park at 6 p.m ET. Flores starts for the Suns, while Mississippi will start right-hander Lucas Sims (0-2, 1.84 ERA).  Fans can listen to the game on the Suns Baseball Network, beginning at 5:45 p.m. with the pregame show “Suns On Deck” on FM 102.3 The Beach, the TuneIn Radio app, and www.jaxsuns.com.
