JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s games against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, with the doubleheader beginning at 5:05 p.m.

Left-handed starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia has been optioned from the major league Miami Marlins to Jacksonville. Garcia spent the last week in the Marlins bullpen after getting called up on Sunday, but he did not pitch in a game for Miami.

Earlier this season, Garcia went 1-2 with a 4.04 ERA in seven starts with Jacksonville, and collected 25 strikeouts in his 35 and two-thirds innings of work. He earned his first win of the season in his last start, tossing five and two-thirds scoreless innings against the Shuckers in Biloxi on Tuesday May 10.

Garcia, listed by Baseball America as the Marlins No. 3 prospect for 2016, also pitched for the Suns last year, where he was 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in seven starts.

Garcia is 23 years old, a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and this is the first major league call-up in his career. He is also the first Sun to receive a direct call-up to the majors from Jacksonville in 2016, after five Suns made the jump to the majors from Jacksonville last year.

In a corresponding move, left-handed relief pitcher Jose Jose has been transferred from Jacksonville to the disabled list, retroactive to May 19, with a right ankle sprain. In 13 relief outings, Jose is 1-3 with a 9.37 ERA.

Additionally, left-handed pitcher Tim Berry has been reinstated from Jacksonville’s disabled list and has had transfer of option to High-A Jupiter. Earlier this season Berry made four starts for the Suns, going 0-2 with an 11.66 ERA.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns open their series with Pensacola in a doubleheader of seven-inning games at 5:05 p.m. Friday. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., and following the doubleheader will be NAPA Family Fireworks presented by NAPA Auto Care Center. The Suns are wearing red jerseys for another Red Shirt Friday. Fans are encouraged to wear red to support military personnel and save $1 per ticket at the box office, or donate the $1 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The game is also presented by Gator Country 99.9 WGNE.
