KODAK, Tenn. – The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Stadium at 5:05 p.m.
Catcher Sharif Othman has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to August 28, with a lower back strain. Othman, a 2015 Southern League Midseason All-Star, was hitting .238 with three homers and 28 RBI in 83 games played this season.
In a corresponding move, catcher Chris Hoo has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Hoo has spent all of 2015 with the Hammerheads, hitting .201 with two home runs and 14 RBI in 86 games played. Hoo was selected by the Marlins in the 27th round of the 2014 draft from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
This is the first call-up to Double-A for Hoo, and he becomes the first member of the 2014 Marlins draft class to reach this level.
The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
