BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Birmingham Barons at Regions Field at 8:05 p.m. ET.
Right-handed relief pitcher Lay Batista has been placed on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Batista is 0-2 with a 4.18 ERA in 19 relief appearances for the Suns this season.
In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher Josh Hodges has been reinstated from Jacksonville’s disabled list to the active roster. Hodges was placed on the disabled list on July 30 with right biceps tendinitis. Hodges with Jacksonville this year is 1-1 with a 4.70 ERA in five appearances and three starts.
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Esmerling De La Rosa has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. De La Rosa made one relief appearance for the Suns on August 25, pitching two and a third innings against the Birmingham Barons where he allowed only one run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. De La Rosa with the Hammerheads this season is 6-4 with a 2.89 ERA in 33 relief appearances.
In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher C.J. Robinson has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. This is the third stint for Robinson with the Suns in 2015, where he has no wins or losses and a 3.18 ERA in two appearances and five and two-thirds innings pitched. Robinson with Jupiter has no wins or losses and a 2.72 ERA in 31 relief appearances and one start.
The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
The Suns and Barons will square off in their series finale Thursday night with a first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. ET from Regions field. The Suns will send out right-hander Austin Brice (5-8, 4.88 ERA) while the Barons will counter with righty Frankie Montas (5-4, 2.49 ERA).
